How to check if ChatGPT names your car wash in Dubai or Abu Dhabi

In September 2025, a driver asked on r/DubaiPetrolHeads where people usually wash their car in Dubai. The replies named a multi-branch service station, a tunnel wash on Sheikh Zayed Road, and also no business at all: a mall car park, or the cleaner in the building. Someone asking ChatGPT the same thing can get the same mix. If you run one car wash, the question is whether you are in that answer, and what is there instead.

The basic check is already written up for restaurants: how to check if ChatGPT names your restaurant. A fresh chat, questions without your name, a look at the sources, and a second run on another day. This piece covers what is different for a car wash.

Ask by type of wash and area

People rarely ask for just "a car wash." In Reddit threads they ask for a place that knows what it is doing, or a steam wash after off-roading, and whether an automatic wash will scratch the paint. In Abu Dhabi, a May 2026 thread got answers naming washes by area: Mushrif, Musaffah, the Saadiyat exit.

Write your questions the same way, using only the services you actually offer. Keep each pair the same and change only the area and city. Adapt these to your own location.

Dubai: "hand car wash in Al Warqa, Dubai"

Abu Dhabi: "hand car wash in Mushrif, Abu Dhabi"

Dubai: "where to wash my car after desert driving in Dubai"

Abu Dhabi: "where to wash my car after desert driving in Abu Dhabi"

Dubai: "car wash near Jumeirah, Dubai that won't scratch the paint"

Abu Dhabi: "car wash near Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi that won't scratch the paint"

Dubai: "interior and exterior car wash open late in Mirdif, Dubai"

Abu Dhabi: "interior and exterior car wash open late in Al Shamkha, Abu Dhabi"

Dubai: "mobile car wash that comes to my building in Al Barsha, Dubai"

Abu Dhabi: "mobile car wash that comes to my building in Al Raha, Abu Dhabi"

Keep the two cities apart

OpenAI's help page says ChatGPT may use an approximate location based on your IP address, and that device location sharing is optional and off by default. If you sit in Dubai and ask a question without a city, you may get a Dubai answer without asking for one.

So say "in Dubai" or "in Abu Dhabi" in every question, and write down whether location sharing was on. Run the Abu Dhabi questions as their own set, not as an afterthought to the Dubai ones.

Write down what was named instead, by type

For a car wash, who was named matters less than what kind of answer it was. Keep each in one of these:

  • A petrol-station wash chain.
  • A competitor with several branches.
  • A mobile wash app or service.
  • A nearby single-location wash.
  • No business at all: a mall car park, the building's cleaner, or wash it yourself.

Each points to a different gap. Losing to a wash two streets away is not the same as losing to "go to the mall." If you run a fixed site, a mobile service being named is a different miss from a rival down the road. Also note if ChatGPT describes your fixed site as a mobile service, or the reverse. Note which question each answer came from.

Your note for each question:

City and area: Date, device, signed in or not, memory on or off, location sharing on or off, VPN: Searched the web: yes / no (citations or Sources shown) Question: My car wash named: yes / absent Named instead, and which type: Sources shown: Map shown (phone app): yes / no, and what was on it:

Look at the sources and the map

The same help page says you can select Sources, when available, to see cited pages, and that on iOS and Android the results may also include a map. Write down every cited page and what it was: your site, a directory, a competitor's site, a forum.

OpenAI says ChatGPT may share your location with third-party providers for things like nearby business listings, but it does not name them, and it does not say how businesses are ordered. So record what appears, and do not assume where it came from.

Treat forum threads with some care. In the Abu Dhabi thread above, one reply was promoting the poster's own app. If a thread like that is cited, write down what it says and who said it.

If ChatGPT names you but gets details wrong, see what to fix when ChatGPT describes your beach club wrong.

Make sure ChatGPT can show your site

OpenAI's crawler page says that sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, though they can still appear as navigational links. Ask whoever runs your website to check that robots.txt does not block OAI-SearchBot. That crawler is separate from GPTBot, which OpenAI uses for training. No extra AI file or new markup is required.

Repeat the questions a few days later

A few days later, open new chats on the same device and settings and ask the same questions again. Answers vary between runs, so compare the two notes for names, types of answer and sources, not a score.

If you edit your site between runs, such as listing your services, areas and hours clearly, log the edit and its date. A later mention is not proof the edit worked, and no check can promise ChatGPT will name your car wash.

The same check in Google: AI Overviews for dental clinics and AI Mode for gyms.

Whereon runs this check for one car wash location and turns it into a plan. You or your agency make the changes. The first look covers five driver questions for one city, run on two separate days.
