How to check if Google AI Overviews names your dental clinic in Dubai or Abu Dhabi

A patient with a chipped tooth on a Friday searches Google for an emergency dentist nearby. Above the usual results, Google may show an AI Overview: a short answer that can name clinics and link to pages. This is how to see whether your clinic is in it, for the one location you run.

Search once for Dubai and once for Abu Dhabi, then repeat both later in the week. A Dubai search says nothing about Abu Dhabi, and one search is not a pattern.

Patients search for a treatment, not your name

In Abu Dhabi, people asking for a dentist on r/abudhabi ask where others go for dental work and which doctors they trust. Another asked for a specific cleaning and periodontal care. One reply in the first thread came from someone who lives in Abu Dhabi and goes to a dentist in Dubai. Those threads involve no AI. They show how the question sounds: a treatment, an area, and trust.

Elsewhere, owners already see competitors in the Overview. In May 2026, someone who helps run a dental practice wrote on r/localseo that a competitor kept getting mentioned in Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT for questions like "What is the best dental clinic in my area?" That was not the UAE. A dental competitor named where you are not is exactly what you are checking for in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Write the searches

Do not type your clinic's name. Someone who already knows the name will find your website. The check is whether Google's AI names you to a patient who doesn't.

Put the treatment and the area in each search, with the city. Keep the treatment wording the same in both cities. Only the area changes. These are wording to adapt, not results.

Two of these use "best" because patients type it. The answer is not a ranking.

Dubai: "best dental clinic in Dubai"

Abu Dhabi: "best dental clinic in Abu Dhabi"

Dubai: "emergency dentist Jumeirah Dubai"

Abu Dhabi: "emergency dentist Khalifa City Abu Dhabi"

Dubai: "Invisalign Business Bay Dubai"

Abu Dhabi: "Invisalign Al Reem Island Abu Dhabi"

Use the treatments you actually offer and the area you actually serve. If you have one clinic in one city, still search the other city once. The other city's Overview shows you what an answer without your clinic looks like.

Before you search, write down the date, the device, whether you were signed in, and where you were searching from. Keep those the same when you repeat the check.

Write down what the page showed

For each search, keep:

Whether an AI Overview appeared at all. Google's own documentation says AI Overviews are only shown when its systems decide they add something to classic Search, and often don't trigger. For health searches, Google said in 2024 that it added extra triggering refinements, so some dental searches may show no Overview at all. "No Overview" is a result, not a failure. AI Mode is a separate answer and can name different clinics; this check covers the Overview only.

Whether your clinic was named in the Overview. If not, write "absent."

Every clinic the Overview named instead, spelled as Google spelled it, in the order shown.

Every page the Overview linked to, and what kind of page it was: your site, another clinic's site, a directory, a best-of list, a news page.

Whether the map pack with clinic listings appeared, where it sat relative to the Overview, and whether your Business Profile was in it. If the Overview linked to a Business Profile or a directory rather than a website, note that too.

One note per search, per city:

City: Date, device, signed in, searched from: Search: AI Overview shown: yes / no My clinic named: yes / absent Named instead, in order: Pages linked (your site / other clinic / directory / Business Profile / review site): Map listings, and whether I was in it:

Being named and being linked are different. An Overview can name your clinic without linking to your site. It can link to a page on your site without saying your name. Write down both.

AI Overviews have been available across the MENA region since May 2025, including in Arabic, and the UAE is on Google's availability list. This check uses English searches. Arabic searches may give a different answer and need their own notes.

Look at Search Console as a second view

Google added a report to Search Console for its generative AI features. The June 2026 announcement says it shows how often URLs from your site appeared in those features, with pages, countries, devices, and dates. Google says it reached all websites worldwide by 31 August 2026.

Filter it to the United Arab Emirates and see which of your pages appeared. It counts how often links to your site were shown, in AI Overviews and AI Mode together. It does not count your clinic's name said without a link, and it has no search-query view. If the report is missing, Google says your site may not have enough impressions yet. So it does not replace the searches above. It tells you which pages Google's AI used. The manual note tells you whether a patient saw your name.

While you are there, check that your site has not been excluded from Google's generative AI features. Inclusion is the default, and Google documents how a site can opt out.

Compare with the clinics that were named

Open the pages the Overview linked to. Is your clinic on them? Are the named clinics on them? In the same r/localseo thread, one reply suggested exactly this: check the sources the AI used for your competitors and see whether you are on them.

If a linked page is a directory or review site, note what it shows for each named clinic: review count, the dentists' listed qualifications, and a licence number if the page shows one. Then check the same page for your clinic. This is what the page displays, not a judgement of the dentists.

Open the named clinics' own pages. Do they answer the treatment question directly, on a page about that treatment? Then open yours. Are your clinic's name, area, and hours the same on your site and your Google listing?

Google says a page needs to be indexed and eligible to show in Search with a snippet to appear in AI features, and that there are no additional technical requirements. You do not need a special AI file or special markup.

Be careful with what the named list proves. Write the names down. Do not assume a named clinic is doing something you should copy.

Search again on another day

Run the same searches on a different day, under the same conditions. Put the two notes side by side: did the Overview appear both times, and did the clinics and linked pages change?

If you changed a page between the two runs, write down what and when. If your clinic shows up later, that does not show the edit caused it. Nothing in this check is a promise.

This check covers Google AI Overviews only. The same check in other assistants: ChatGPT for restaurants and Gemini for cafes.

Whereon runs these Google searches for one clinic location, keeps the Overview, the named clinics and the linked pages for each city, and turns them into a plan. The clinic or its agency makes the changes. The first look is two notes for one city, a few days apart.
