How to check if Gemini names your cafe in Dubai or Abu Dhabi

Someone with a laptop and a free morning asks Google Gemini where to sit and work for a few hours. Gemini answers with a few cafes, and the names can link to each place in Google Maps. This is how to see whether your cafe is one of them, for the one location you run.

Do it for Dubai and for Abu Dhabi, in separate chats. Then do it again on another day. A Dubai answer says nothing about Abu Dhabi, and one answer is not a pattern.

Gemini reads your Google Maps listing

Google's help page on finding places in Gemini says Gemini uses public information from Google Maps to find businesses and to give addresses, descriptions, websites, ratings, and opening hours. Google's own example question is about a coffee shop: where the closest one is and what time it opens.

For a cafe, that makes your Google Maps listing the first thing to look at. It is not the only input. Google also says Gemini can always use public information from Google Search. But the listing is the part you control, through your Google Business Profile, and it is where Google says Gemini gets a place's hours and description.

Owners elsewhere already notice the gap between Maps and Gemini. In November 2025, a coffee shop owner in Texas wrote on r/GoogleGeminiAI that when they asked Gemini for specialty coffee nearby with pour-over and Wi-Fi, it listed cafes but never theirs, even though they showed up fine in Search and Maps. That was not the UAE. It is the situation this check is for.

Write down how you are asking

Gemini's answer depends on more than the question. Google says it can use your device location with your permission, and that, if you connect Google Search services to Gemini through Personal Intelligence, recommendations can be personalized from your Search and Maps data. Your own phone has probably searched for your cafe many times. That is not how a new customer's phone looks.

Google also says that to use Google Maps information, Keep Activity must be on. Signed out or with Keep Activity off, Gemini can still use Google Search.

So before you ask, write down:

The date. Phone or laptop. Signed in or signed out. Keep Activity on or off. Location shared or not. Search and Maps connected under Personal Intelligence or not.

Keep those the same every time you repeat the check. If you change one, the answers are not comparable.

Ask the way a customer asks

Do not type your cafe's name. Someone who already knows the name can find you in Maps. The check is whether Gemini names you to someone who doesn't.

Put the reason for the visit and the area in the question, with the city in the sentence. Do not rely on your location to supply the city.

These lines are wording to adapt, not results. Use the same question for both cities, and change only the area.

Dubai: "Which cafe in Al Quoz, Dubai, is good for working on a laptop on a weekday morning?"

Abu Dhabi: "Which cafe in Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi, is good for working on a laptop on a weekday morning?"

Dubai: "Which cafe in Business Bay, Dubai, serves specialty coffee?"

Abu Dhabi: "Which cafe on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, serves specialty coffee?"

Use what your customers actually come for: a quiet table, late opening, breakfast. If your cafe is in only one city, run the other city once anyway, with an area you do not serve, so you can see a list that is not yours.

Write down four things

From each answer, keep:

Whether your cafe was named. If it was not, write "absent."

Every cafe named instead, with the exact names, in order.

Whether a place card or map was shown.

What the Sources button linked to. Google says not all responses include sources. If there was no Sources button and no in-line link, write "no sources shown." That is a valid result.

A blank note looks like this. Fill it from your own chat.

City: Date: Device, signed in, Keep Activity, location, Personal Intelligence: Question: My cafe: named / absent Named instead, in order: Place card shown: yes / no Sources:

Then open your Maps listing

If Gemini named you, check what it said against your listing. Are the hours right? Is the area right? Does the description match the cafe you run today? If Gemini repeated something wrong, the listing or a page it cited is where to correct it.

If Gemini did not name you, open the listings of the cafes it named instead. Compare them with yours: the category, the hours, the photos, whether there is a menu, and whether the recent reviews describe the thing the customer asked about. Look for what is missing from yours. There is no review count or rating that guarantees a mention, so do not set yourself a number.

Ask Maps, Google's newer way to ask questions inside Maps, launched in the U.S. and India in March 2026. In August 2026 Google said it was rolling out in over 150 more countries and territories in English without listing them, so the UAE is not confirmed by name. This check uses the Gemini app.

Ask again on another day

Open a new chat on a different day. Use the same questions and the same conditions. Keep the second note next to the first and compare the names, not a score.

If you changed your listing between the two runs, write down what you changed and when. A later mention is not proof the change caused it. It is the next note.

This check covers Gemini only, and only the questions you asked. For ChatGPT, the same naming check is written for restaurants: how to check if ChatGPT names your restaurant in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. For Claude, it is written for salons: how to check if Claude names your salon in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Whereon runs this kind of check for one location and gives a plan for what to change. The changes are yours to make. The first look is two notes for one city, a few days apart.
